‘Couldn’t defend 16 in the last match, now gets the big wicket of DK cheaply’ – Twitter impressed by Prasidh Krishna spell

Prasidh Krishna turned in a fine performance for the Rajasthan Royals, in the second IPL Qualifier against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Friday. He took 3-22 from his four overs, and all three of his wickets – Virat Kohli, Dinesh Karthik and Wanindu Hasaranga – were pivotal ones  that changed the course of the game. Krishna’s strikes helped restrict RCB to a total of 157.

Kohli was his first scalp of the night when he fell in the powerplay for 7(8). After a vintage half-century in RCB’s last group stage game against Gujarat Titans, his form has slumped again. Today, a probing length delivery from Krishna held its line after pitching, and Kohli’s attempted drive ended up a thick edge that was taken by the wicketkeeper Sanju Samson.

Krishna completed his spell in the penultimate over, and picked up two more wickets to impede RCB’s death over scoring. He stuck to the same lengths as he did with the new ball. Another length ball took care of Dinesh Karthik who fell on the first ball of the 19th, a huge gain for the Royals considering his strike-rate in the closing overs. He tried to send it out of thhttps://twitter.com/CricketDave27/status/1530210711124824069e ground, but only succeeded in getting a toe edge that was caught by Riyan Parag at long-on. DK had to go for 6(6).

Next ball was Wanindu Hasaranga’s turn. A yorker fired down at 147kph took out his stumps before he even had time to react. There was no hat-trick for Krishna, but those two wickets ensured that only ten runs came off the last two overs.

Krishna was purchsed by the Royals for 10 crore at the mega-auction. He has taken 18 wickets from 16 innings at an economy rate of 8.17, and is the second-highest wicket-ker for the Royals behind Yuzvendra Chahal (26).

QUalifier 2 is the equivlanet of a knock-out, which allows the winner through to the final. Gujurat Titans have already booked their slot after defeating the Royals in Qualifier 1. The winner of this game will take them on in the IPL final on May 29 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
