‘Harpreet Brar figures tonight worth gold’ – Twitter praises PBKS spinner’s spell against SRH

Haprpreet Brar turned in an impressive performance for the Punjab Kings in their game against Sunrisers Hyderabad, the last of the IPL group stage matches. He took 3-26, ripping through the Sunrisers’ fragile top-order to restrict them to 156. Both teams are knocked out of contention for qualification.

SRH got a decent start, managing 47 runs in the powerplay for the loss of their opener Priyam Garg. Bhuvanehwar Kumar led the side in absence of skipper Kane Williamson, who flew back home to New Zealand for the birth of his child.

Harpreet was introduced immediately after the powerplay, and his first over went for nine runs, thanks to Abhishek Sharma heaving him for a six over mid-wicket. Rahul Tripathi and Abhishek Sharma had rebuilt SRH’s innings after losing Garg, having added a 47-run partnership off 35 bals.

By the tenth over, SRH were just starting to look comfortable again at 60-1 until Harpreet broke the partnership. Tripathi, after scoring 20 couldn’t get the elevation on a sweep and found Shikhar Dahawan at short fine leg.

The set batter Abhishek Sharma was the next to go. He had scored an excellent 43 off 32 balls, but holed out trying to go big in Harpreet’s next over. He tried to smash a full delivery far over long-on, but Liam Livingstone took a brilliant catch at the boundary rope to send him back.

Harpreet bowled his last over before the start of the slog overs, and took one final wicket to set SRH back once and for all. Aiden Markram was undone by the sharp turn and bounce as the ball flew off the pitch, he lost his balance and was stumped by Jitesh Sharma.
