Juventus offer Pogba €8m salary. How much of a pay cut is it?

Paul Pogba’s time at Manchester United is officially over. The club from Old Trafford announced earlier this week that the World Cup winner will be leaving the club as a free agent. Pogba’s time at United was mired with controversy from day one. The Frenchman made a memorable return to the club as a world record signing for £89m after being allowed to leave as a teenager under Sir Alex Ferguson on a free to Juventus.

As a teenager, Pogba had won the the prestigious FA youth cup with Manchester United as an academy graduate with the likes of Jesse Lingard, who is also leaving the club this season on a free. Pogba left United for Juventus in 2012 because of concerns regarding playing time at Old Trafford and a difference of opinion in how the Frenchman should further his career between Ferguson, who was his manager at the time, and Pogba’s now-deceased super-agent, Mino Raiola.

Pogba had four excellent seasons at Juventus, winning the Serie A in each of them and making it to the Champions League final in the 2014-15 season but falling short against Barcelona. He was also one of the best players at 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil and was part of the France side that made the Euro 2016 final. His stock had gone up and United broke the world record fee for a transfer to get him back under Jose Mourinho in the 2016 summer transfer window. He enjoyed a successful first year with the club, winning the Carling Cup and Europa League but things soured ever since.

His exploits with France only made him more polarizing a figure in England after winning the 2018 World Cup under Didier Deschamps and scoring in the final against Croatia. It’s been rumored that he’ll make another return but this time to Juventus under manager, Massimiliano Allegri.

How much will Juventus pay Paul Pogba? Paul Pogba Juventus salary confirmed

Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has reported that Pogba’s Juventus salary will be 8m per season. Pogba’s Juventus salary per week will be 154,000.

Pogba was on a weekly wage of 340,000 per week at Old Trafford, which amounted to 16.26m annually. If Romano is right, this will be a significant drop in wages for the Frenchman. He’ll be earning around 8m annually and 154,000 per week at Turin. It’s unclear if this is after tax but even with the add-ons mentioned by Romano, this is a significantly lower figure for one of the most marketable athletes in  world football. It seems like Pogba wants to just focus on the football now after some difficult years at Old Trafford.
