In IPL 2022, he’ll be aiming to lead the inaugural-season victors to a second consecutive championship. With only a few days left until the tournament begins, Kumar Sangakkara, the head coach of RR and Director of Cricket, has heaped praise on the 27-year-old. According to the batting great, Samson is one of the finest Twenty20 players in the world. Keeping him on the team was a no-brainer. He went on to praise the youngster’s destructive batting and dubbed him a match-winner for his efforts.
Sanju Samson is a superb player who can win matches: Kumar Sangakkara ahead of IPL 2022
“Irrespective of whether he is the captain or the future of RR, he is one of the finest T20 players. His capacity to be destructive and a match-winner is unparalleled. He has all of the characteristics that a batter should possess. He was captain before my taking over as coach last season. I’ve gotten to know him rather well and appreciate him a great deal. He has a great deal of enthusiasm for RR. He began here, and he recognises the significance of that,” Sangakkara said.
Sangakkara went on to praise Samson’s leadership abilities, describing him as a natural leader.
“He is a captain who is prepared to acknowledge that he does not know everything at this time and that he will learn as he goes along. He’s a natural leader with a lot of potential. He’ll continue to improve and improve,”Sangakkara said further. It should be remembered that the Twenty20 World Cup will be held in Australia later this year.
As a result, Samson will need to put up a strong performance this season to secure a spot in the Indian team for the grand competition. He shouldn’t be lacking in self-assurance, considering how well the dasher performed the previous season. Samson scored 484 runs in 14 games during the IPL 2021, averaging 40.33 and a strike rate of 136.72. He would want to put up a similar or even greater performance in the future.
