‘Retire out Marcus Stoinis, you’re not helping your team’ – Twitter users criticise LSG finisher’s innings

Marcus Stoinis received criticism on Twitter for his less-than-ideal innings at the death for Lucknow Super Giants, in their game against Delhi Capitals on Sunday afternoon. The all-rounder scored 17 off 16 balls, hitting one four and a six after he came in to bat in the fourteenth over. Still, LSG made a total of 193 anyway and defeated DC by seven runs.

Stoinis hasn’t been able to find his stride as a finisher for LSG in the way he would’ve liked, and he hasn’t been the match-winner his side expected of him. His highest score of the season so far has been an undefeated 38 off 17 balls in their opening match against Rajasthan Royals, but RR still inflicted a 3-run loss on LSG, and Stoinis hasn’t been able to do enough with the bat since then.

The Australian also came under the scanner for his behaviour during the game against RCB. He was batting on 24 off 14 balls before being bowled by Josh Hazlewood, and was fined 50 percent of his match fees for swearing into the stump mic. The reason for his frustration was that he was on the receiving end of an erroneous wide call right before his wicket fell.

Still, Stoinis was given the opportunity to redeem himself when his skipper tossed him the ball in the final over of DC’s innings. He had 21 runs to defend against Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav, but despite getting thumped for a couple of sixes, he managed to keep the two batters to 14 runs. The win drives LSG to second on the points table with 14 points from their ten games.
