Ricky Ponting Provides Update Regarding The Availability Of David Warner, Mitchell March & Anrich Nortje

A stronger line-up is expected to be fielded by the Delhi Capitals from their next encounter onwards, with big guns like Anrich Nortje and David Warner likely to be available for selection. Following Delhi’s 14-run loss against the Gujarat Titans on Saturday, the team’s head coach, Ricky Ponting, acknowledged the development. Ponting is also optimistic that all-rounder Mitchell Marsh will be able to overcome his fitness difficulties and be eligible for selection shortly.

For those who are unfamiliar with Nortje’s back and hip injuries, it has remained a mystery as he has not competed in competitive cricket since November of last year. Ponting, on the other hand, indicated that the South African speedster has been doing well in the nets. Regarding Marsh and Warner, Cricket Australia’s contracted players would be able to compete in the IPL 2022 only if they arrive after April 6.

Because DC’s next match is against the Lucknow Super Giants is on April 7, Warner may be able to participate in that game. While Marsh is most likely to miss that match due to a hip issue, Ponting anticipates that the all-rounder will be ready after the LSG match.

While warming up this morning, Anrich Nortje bowled flawlessly: Ricky Ponting

“In the warm-ups this morning, Nortje was bowling well. In my opinion, he has to go through another four or five-over session at 100 percent of his ability, and then if he receives approval from Cricket South Africa, he should be good to play. In any case, we’ve got a few more days until our next game [against the Lucknow Super Giants on April 7], so we’re hoping he’ll be eligible for selection for that one,” Ponting told reporters after DC’s loss to GT.

“According to my information, David Warner has landed in Mumbai. He departed early in the morning, I suppose, so he should be waiting for us when we return to Mumbai later this evening. Mitchell Marsh has been in Mumbai for a few days, presumably to complete his quarantine. He is expected to return soon. I believe he will be released from quarantine the next day,” he continued.

As previously said, Ponting is hopeful that Marsh will be able to return to work shortly. Further, Ponting said, “We are hopeful that he [Marsh] will be ready for the game against the Kolkata Knight Riders on the 10th.”
