‘Felt it was the right moment to take him on’ – Robin Uthappa on going after Glenn Maxwell

"Right Moment To Challenge"- Robin Uthappa Talks About Taking Glenn Maxwell On

On Tuesday (April 12), Robin Uthappa was at his destructive best as Chennai Super Kings claimed their first victory in the IPL 2022, smashing Royal Challengers Bangalore by 23 runs. Even though he was playing against his previous team, Uthappa kept his innings under control and produced some beautiful shots around the field. Seeing how CSK had suffered some early setbacks, Uthappa maintained his composure in the first half of the innings.

However, once he had settled in, no one could halt the brisk opener. He finished up with a fifty-ball 88 as CSK scored the highest team score of the season, 216/4, as a result of his efforts. While all of the Royal Challengers Bangalore spinners battled to manage Uthappa, part-time off-spinner Glenn Maxwell had the most difficult time containing him. Following his two overs in which he conceded just 10 runs, captain Faf du Plessis entrusted him with the responsibility of bowling the 13th over even though numerous front-line bowlers were available.

The RCB bowlers were shredded by Robin Uthappa and Shivam Dube

The move proved to be ineffective, as Uthappa hammered three sixes in that over, further strengthening CSK’s hold on the match. Shivam Dube, who struck 95* off 46 balls, was Uthappa’s partner in crime in the game, as the two totalled 165 runs off 74 balls together to win the match. After being questioned about his savagery, Uthappa remarked that Dube had the responsibility of smashing the spinners, and that he wanted more strike while the pacers were in action. The 36-year-old, on the other hand, didn’t mind destroying Maxwell as long as the balls fell in his arc.

“Even though it was the longer boundary, I thought it was the right moment to challenge Maxwell when he came into bowl. I chose to challenge him since he was bowling with an off-spinner. The spinners were bowling, and when the pacers came back on, I ordered Dube to give me the strike back. I tried to feed him (Dube) as much strike as I could when the spinners were bowling,”¬†Uthappa said after the game.

The triumph for CSK, on the other hand, came at a crucial time after they had lost their previous four games. The reigning champions, on the other hand, still have a long way to go and must devise a strategy for extending their lead in the race.
