‘Sacrilege to keep him out of playing XI for too long’ – Prasidh Krishna gets Shreyas Iyer for a duck in tour game, Twitter reacts

The warm-up game of the India’s tour of England began today, with the squad taking on hosts county Leicestershire for a four-day game. Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna and Cheteshwar Pujara were part of the Leicester XI. Krishna bowled an outstanding spell, and succeeded in removing Shreyas Iyer for a duck.

None of the Indian top-order looked comfortable against the Leicectershire side. Shubman Gill was the only one who looked in good touch, and the two openers put on a 35-run opening stand before it was broken by Will Davis. Gill struck three fluent fours before he edged Davis to the keeper, and had to go for 24. Skipper Rohit Sharma didn’t look comfortable at all and followed shortly after for 25, getting a top-edge trying to pull Roman Walker.

Two overs later, Walker took care of Hanuma Vihari, sending him back for 3. Prasidh Krishna had troubled both Rohit and Vihari, but was unlucky to miss out on wickets with a couple of edges going past the stumps. Finally, he got his due when Shreyas Iyer walked out to bat in place of Vihari.

Krishna bowled one back of a length, just outside off stump and Iyer was squared up trying to drive. The edge was taken in a low diving catch by Rishabh Pant. With Iyer’s dismissal, India were left reeling at at 55-4, losing three wickets in the space of only four runs.
