‘Sai Sudharsan carrying the team in just his fifth IPL match’ – Twitter in awe at 20-year-old’s innings

Sai Sudharsan leg the charge for the Gujarat Titans in their fixture against Punjab Kings on Tuesday. The 20-year-old scored 65 off 50 balls, including five fours and a six to lead the Titans to a a 143-run target.

This is the Titans’ lowest total of the season, aside from Sudharsan, the next highest scorer was Wriddhiman Saha at the top with 21 off 17. For the first time this tournament, the Titans lost both openers within the powerplay. Shubman Gill was run out for 9 off 11 balls, and Wriddhiman Saha mistimed a short ball off Kagiso Rabada to Mayank Agarwal at mid off. Saha looked good for his 17-ball 21, which included three fours and a six but his innings was cut short.

The Titans failed to build any major partnerships after that. Sai Sudharsan stayed rooted to the crease once Saha was disjmissed in the fifth over but didn’t find any partnres. Hardik Pandya had a rare failure, edging a length ball from Kagiso Rabada to the wicketkeeper. David Miller then had a short but uncomfortable stay at the crease, taking 14 balls to score 11 runs, and Rahul Tewatia joined Sudharsan at the crease once Miller edged one to long off.

the partnership betweeen TEwatia and Sudharsan was easily the best of PBKS’ innings, and took only 30 balls to make 45 runs. Still, the majority of those runs came off the bat of Sudharsan; he contributed 30 runs from 17 balls, while Tewatia only scored 11 off 13 balls. Sudharsan reached his fifty off 41 balls, when he whipped Arshdeep Singh for a six over midwicket.
