Shikhar Dhawan eyes T20I WC team through IPL 2022

Shikhar Dhawan Wants To Get Into The T20I WC Team By Doing Well In IPL 2022

Despite his age, veteran Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan is confident of earning a spot in the country’s Twenty20 International team for the 2022 edition of the T20 World Cup. It will be held later this year in Australia. When questioned about his prospects of making a return to the T20I side in an interview, Dhawan claimed that a strong performance in the IPL 2022 might win him a spot in the World Cup team.

The uninitiated should be aware that Dhawan played his last Twenty20 International match against Sri Lanka in July 2021. He captained a second-string Indian squad in the absence of the first-choice players. He didn’t have much success against the Lankan Lions in the previous season of the IPL. But he did manage to score some runs against the Mumbai Indians. However, despite finishing as the fourth-highest run-getter in the tournament, he was overlooked for India’s T20I World Cup 2021 roster, with the selectors opting instead for teenager Ishan Kishan to serve as the team’s back-up opener.

Since then, Shikhar Dhawan has been left out of India’s Twenty20 international squad. In recent years, he has only been considered for One-Day International (ODI) matches. As shown by his dropping from Grade A to Grade C on the BCCI Central contract list. Dhawan, on the other hand, believes that a strong performance in the IPL 2022 would increase his chances of being called up to the T20I squad.

I am a process-oriented individual: Shikhar Dhawan

Dhawan will represent Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League in 2022 after being signed for INR 8.25 crores in the mega-auction. He is the most experienced player on the team. He has had a successful run in the past editions of the IPL. Thus, the veteran will try to make the most of his chance to make the T20 World Cup team.

“The Twenty20 World Cup is just around the corner. I am certain that if I do well in the IPL, I will be promoted to the side. I am a highly process-oriented individual and I don’t set targets,” Dhawan stated as reported by Times of India

Meanwhile, India’s T20I team is now led by captain Rohit Sharma. KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan and Rohit are the current trio of openers. As a result, it will require a lot of effort to defeat any of the three.
