To earn a name for himself in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, Tilak Varma just needed a few innings to establish himself. Mumbai Indians purchased the southpaw at an auction for INR 1.7 crore, and the kid is returning the trust placed in him by the team’s management. Tilak, even though the Mumbai Indians have lost their first two games, has amazed everyone with scores of 22 and 61. Furthermore, he scored these runs with an incredible cumulative strike rate of 173.
Mumbai Indians have uncovered numerous talents over the years, from Jasprit Bumrah to Hardik Pandya, and Tilak has now been added to that list. Meanwhile, the southpaw’s road to greatness hasn’t been a simple one by any stretch of imagination. The 19-year-old, who hails from Hyderabad, comes from a modest upbringing and has risen to the top of the cricketing world thanks to some remarkable exploits at the junior level.
Tilak Varma admits to experiencing a lot of financial challenges throughout his childhood
Even though he was a member of India’s Under-19 World Cup team, the kid was unable to ignite the competition in his first appearance. Yet, his exploits on the home circuit won him a hefty IPL deal as a result of his exploits. Varma recalled his previous financial difficulties and said that he now hopes to purchase a home for his family.
“We’ve experienced a lot of financial challenges throughout our lives. As a result of my father’s meagre income, he had to cover the costs of my cricket as well as my older brother’s college education. I’ve been able to cover the majority of my cricketing expenditures in recent years thanks to sponsorship and match money,” Varma was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
“As of right now, we do not own a home. To provide a home for my parents with whatever I make from this IPL, my main goal is to save enough money. I’ll be able to play freely for the remainder of my career because of the money I’ve earned from the IPL,” he said. During the course of the interview, Varma also discussed how his family and coach were emotional when they learned of his winning offer in the blockbuster auction.
“On the day of the IPL auction, I was on a video conference with my coach, who was a great help. After a while, my coach began to cry because the bids were getting higher. After I was hauled up, I contacted my parents to tell them what had happened. They, too, were moved to tears by the phone call. My mum was having difficulty expressing herself,” he said.
